Lowndes County Criminal Court Cases
The Lowndes Circuit Court tries felony cases. Lowndes District Court handles misdemeanors, traffic matters, and early felony proceedings such as initial appearances and preliminary steps. Both court divisions use the same Circuit Clerk at the Lowndes County Courthouse in Hayneville. That arrangement matters because one records office maintains the criminal and warrant divisions for both courts, receives pleadings, images documents, collects court money, and issues notices and subpoenas.
Municipal jurisdiction forms a separate layer. Hayneville and White Hall municipal courts generally keep ordinance, traffic, and city misdemeanor proceedings that arise within their limits. A related felony or an unusual circumstance may move the route into the county system. The charge on a citation, complaint, or case heading should therefore guide the search. A city police report, county jail booking, and Lowndes County criminal court case file can describe the same event while remaining three distinct records.
Lowndes Court Files Go Digital
The Lowndes Circuit Clerk states that court records are electronically imaged and that most trial-court information can be reached through Just One Look, also called AlacourtACCESS. Electronic imaging does not make every document public or guarantee that every old case is online. It does give readers a path to the case status, court actions, settings, party information, financial history, and document images that the product makes available.
The courthouse counter remains essential. Call the clerk at (334) 548-2252 for a certified judgment, an older or non-imaged document, or a Lowndes County criminal court case that is absent from the portal. Provide the case number when known. Otherwise, give the defendant's full name, an approximate filing year, the likely division, and the title of the document needed. Ask about copy and certification costs before ordering because Lowndes does not publish a local criminal-copy fee schedule or archive coverage date.

Searching Lowndes County Case Records
AlacourtACCESS is the only verified online route for a broad Lowndes County criminal case search. It is an account-based paid product, not a free public docket archive. A case number is the best identifier. Name searches can return people with similar names, and the product charges even when it reports no matching record. Use the local setting docket first when the goal is only to see an upcoming Lowndes setting.
- Check the free Lowndes setting docket for a known upcoming date, or open AlacourtACCESS for a broader case search.
- Choose a name search or case-number search. Sign up or log in before purchasing the Alacourt result.
- Select the correct Lowndes court and compare the division, filing details, and parties before treating the match as the right person.
- Read the Case Action Summary from oldest to newest. Note amended charges, settings, rulings, pleas, disposition, costs, and later entries.
- Contact the Lowndes Circuit Clerk for certified copies, images not purchased online, and older or missing court material.
The public landing page exposes only the search controls documented below. The transaction flow hides finer name-search subfields, so details such as birth-date filters should not be assumed.

Free Lowndes Court Docket First
The free Lowndes setting docket can answer a narrow question before a paid search: whether a name appears on the selected day's setting list. It offers a Setting Date menu and an optional Last Name field. Leaving the name blank returns that setting docket. It warns that some cases may not appear and directs uncertain readers to the clerk, so it cannot establish that no Lowndes County criminal court case exists.
The official docket interface shows the limited scope of the free tool.
That distinction prevents a common mistake: a settings list is useful for a date, but it is not a historical party-name index or a complete criminal case file.
Inside a Lowndes County Case File
A Lowndes County criminal court case file is case-centered. It follows one prosecution through its filings and docket events. An ALEA criminal-history record is person-centered and ties fingerprint-supported arrest cycles to reported outcomes. A jail booking is custody-centered. Charges can differ across all three because an arrest allegation may be amended, dismissed, replaced by an indictment, or resolved through a plea.
| Case number and court | Identifies one action, its division, and the court responsible for it. |
|---|---|
| Charging document | May be a complaint, information, or indictment that states the filed allegation. |
| Case Action Summary | Chronological event log of filings, settings, actions, and rulings. |
| Parties and settings | Shows listed parties and scheduled court dates in the public product. |
| Disposition and judgment | Records whether a charge was dismissed, resolved by plea or trial, or remains pending. |
| Financial history and images | May show court costs and available attachments, with document images sold separately. |
A dismissal ends the filed charge but does not by itself erase an arrest. Nolle prosequi means the prosecution chose not to continue that charge at that time. An acquittal is a not-guilty result after adjudication. Each term describes an outcome, not a general finding about every related record.
Lowndes Court Search Costs
AlacourtACCESS charges $9.99 for a name search or a case-number search, including one case detail. Each later detail from a name search costs another $9.99, and a no-match name result still counts as a search. Images cost $5 for the first 20 pages and $0.50 for each later page. Lifetime monitoring is $19.99 for a district case and $29.99 for a circuit case.
The official Alacourt landing page displays the paid products and the information offered through them.
Readers who need one known record can limit cost by obtaining the case number first, then asking the clerk whether a plain or certified copy is the right product.
Lowndes Drug Court Case Records
The Lowndes judiciary directory lists Second Judicial Circuit Drug Court referral numbers, (334) 403-7301 and (251) 401-0450. The program serves a shared circuit rather than a standalone Lowndes court. A January 2025 state grant included treatment for court referrals across six counties, including Lowndes. A March 2026 state audit found no significant noncompliance in the shared Butler-Crenshaw-Lowndes Drug Court Fund.
Those program facts do not create a public participant list. Start with the ordinary Lowndes County criminal court case and its public docket entries when trying to understand a filed prosecution. Ask the clerk about the releasable court record, not a treatment file. Participant treatment details, testing, and other protected program information should not be inferred from a referral contact or fund audit. The docket may show a lawful court action while private service information remains outside public view.
How a Criminal Case Moves
A Lowndes felony may begin with an arrest or sworn complaint. District Court handles early matters. A grand jury may return an indictment, after which Circuit Court handles the felony trial case. A misdemeanor usually stays in District Court unless municipal jurisdiction applies. Arraignment addresses the charge and plea. Motions, discovery, and settings follow, then a plea, dismissal, or trial produces the disposition. Sentencing follows a conviction.
Case flow: Charges Filed › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing
Later Lowndes County criminal court case entries may concern appeal, restitution, court costs, probation compliance, revocation, a served warrant, or an expungement petition. Reading only the first charge line misses these changes.
Lowndes Municipal Court Split
Hayneville and White Hall misdemeanor matters generally remain with their municipal courts when the alleged offense occurred within city limits. The Lowndes magistrate instructions identify a related felony or extraordinary circumstance as a reason the county route may differ. Fort Deposit traffic matters also require attention to the court named on the citation. No verified municipal case-history search was found for these cities.
Start with the charging paper. Contact the municipal counter for a city docket or copy. Use the Lowndes Circuit Clerk and AlacourtACCESS for District or Circuit cases. A county search miss may therefore mean municipal filing, a matter too new to appear, a confidential case, an expunged case, or simply the wrong spelling. It is not proof that no police contact or court matter occurred.
Note: The court named on the citation or complaint is more reliable than guessing from the arresting agency.
Case Record Access & Restrictions
The Alabama Open Records Act recognizes access to public writings, subject to other laws and valid redactions. Court access also follows the Alabama Rules of Court-Record Privacy and Confidentiality, effective January 1, 2025. Public docket access does not expose protected Social Security numbers, financial-account data, confidential victim material, or other information the rules shield.
Juvenile and youthful-offender proceedings are not ordinary public adult cases. Expunged material is removed from routine public inspection under the order and Alabama Code Chapter 27. The clerk may redact protected data while releasing the public portion of an otherwise available document. Ask about a specific case number and document instead of requesting an undefined database.
The court file records filed charges, rulings, and outcomes. It does not replace the arresting agency's narrative or the subject's fingerprint-supported ALEA record. Confirm the disposition at the clerk before relying on a docket summary.
